Do you agree with our picks?

Tugay

Mercurial midfielder Tugay has been popular at pretty much every club he’s been at – Rangers are no exception to this rule.

A brilliant player to have anywhere in the middle of the park, Tugay signed for Rangers in 1999, remaining at the club until 2001. In total, he made 42 appearances for the Gers, scoring four goals.

Tugay was part of the Rangers team that won a domestic double in 2000, as they picked up both the SPFL title and the Scottish Cup.

Steven Davis

A fan favourite at the Ibrox Stadium, Steven Davis has enjoyed two stints at Rangers, with his second still ongoing. He initially joined Rangers as a deadline day loan signing back in 2008, eventually joining the club on a permanent basis until 2012.

In total, Davis has made 225 appearances for Rangers, scoring 19 goals. An energetic midfielder with brilliant passing ability, it isn’t difficult to see why he’s so well liked by Gers fans.

On top of this, Davis has also been included in the Northern Ireland squad on many occasions. He has 140 Northern Ireland caps, alongside 13 international goals.

Jermain Defoe

Legendary striker Jermaine Defoe surprised plenty of audiences when he joined Rangers under Steven Gerrard – not many people expected him to be as good as he was!

Arriving at the club in January 2019, Defoe went on to score 21 goals in 37 games during his loan spell.

He was less impressive when signed to the club permanently – he could only managed four goals in 17 games, as age began to catch up with the Beckton-born centre forward.

Defoe has had a particularly nomadic career – outside of Rangers, he’s also played for Tottenham, Portsmouth, West Ham and Sunderland.

David Weir

David Weir’s time as a Rangers player was synonymous with one thing – trophies. During his time at the club, the Gers won both SPFL three times, the Scottish Cup twice and the Scottish League Cup three times.

What makes this so special is Weir’s age when he was signed by Walter Smith in 2007 – he was 36, with many critics relentlessly pointing this fact out.

Regardless, he put these naysayers in their place when he put in heroic performance after heroic performance for the Light Blues.

Weir also played for Scotland between 1997 and 2010, being born in Falkirk. He made 69 appearances for the Tartan Army, scoring one goal.

Kris Boyd

Kris Boyd set the tone for his Rangers stint on his debut, where he netted a hattrick against Peterhead. From then, in his first season, he scored an eye watering 20 goals in 17 starts.

At Rangers, Boyd won the SPFL, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup twice each.

He returned to Rangers in 2014, towards the end of his career. He second spell at the Ibrox was far less productive, as he only scored four goals in 29 games.

Boyd was often snubbed by Scotland internationally, only collecting 18 caps in total. Nevertheless, he still managed to score seven goals for the Scots.
