Ferguson Said He Expected Gerrard To Drop Key Star For Old Firm Clash

Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson says he would not have been surprised if Gers boss Steven Gerrard had dropped Alfredo Morelos for the Old Firm Derby.

The match had to be postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak, but Ferguson believes Florian Kamberi’s impact after coming on in the 3-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night may have seen Morelos benched for this weekend’s game:

“I thought Flo Kamberi made a big difference when he came on against Leverkusen. And Steven Gerrard might have been tempted to drop Morelos for Kamberi if the Old Firm game was going ahead tomorrow.”

Morelos has been in poor form of late, having scored just once this calendar year, but it would have been a massive call if the Colombian was taken out of the side.

As it is, though, the suspension of all football means we will probably never know what Gerrard would have decided.

The pandemic has impacted games right across Europe, and despite the suspension only currently expected to last until the start of next month, the reality is that there is no way to predict when the season will restart.
