Ex England International Addresses Possible Rangers Transfer After Praising Gerrard

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has revealed that he has not had any discussions with Rangers regarding a free transfer to Ibrox.

The former England international left West Ham by mutual consent last month and can join outside of the transfer window, but while he says he is a big admirer of Light Blues boss Steven Gerrard, there is no truth to speculation that he could make the move to Glasgow:

“There’s been no contact. I’ve read all the rumours, but honestly, there’s been no contact. Listen, I played with Gerrard for England, I watched him growing up. He was one of my heroes growing up and he’s a legend. But there’s been no contact.”

It must be pointed out that Wilshere doesn’t rule out a potential switch, but it does confirm there is no interest from the Rangers end of things, at the moment at least.

Gerrard does have a wealth of midfield options available to him. With Bongani Zungu having arrived late on before the window closed, the South African international is now one of six central midfielders in the first-team squad, along with Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield, Joe Aribo and Steven Davis. With that being the case, it is hard to see where Wilshere would fit in.
