Some figures at the SPFL are reportedly questioning whether the organisation can afford to pay the legal fees that would be needed if they go ahead with an internal inquiry into the voting which has effectively ended the football season.
Deloitte have already found no wrongdoing in Dundee’s vote, but Rangers have called for a far more wide-ranging audit of the conduct from the SPFL during the whole process.
Needless to say, fans are unhappy with the SPFL questioning the cost of such an investigation:

I mean days ago they were happy to throw money at a waste of an investigation. Perhaps other clubs should ask why that was approved when the scope wasn’t suitable.

They already have their narrative sorted. Either Rangers ‘just move on’ and if any club goes under it was big bad Rangers fault.

The cost of keeping this lot in charge of Scottish football will be a lot more damaging than any legal costs. How much did their independent investigation that no one knew about cost them ? I believe they’re running scared of what will be revealed by a truly independent inquiry.

Should do things properly and above board on the 1st place then we wouldn't need an equiry

The only way the game in Scotland can move forward is if a full investigation can be conducted so the facts can be made public.
Even prominent Celtic figures such as Sir Kenny Dalglish have suggested that such an inquiry is needed before the SPFL continues with its plans.
Whether the EGM meeting in May will force the association’s hands, we shall have to wait and see.
