Cundy Backs “Astonishing” Rangers To Grab English Scalp In Europa League

talkSPORT presenter Jason Cundy says he would not rule out Rangers knocking out an English Premier League side in the Europa League this season.

After witnessing the Light Blues’ thrilling 4-3 win over Royal Antwerp on Thursday night, Cundy remarked that Steven Gerrard‘s side are good enough to beat the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Leicester:

“Their performances, not just in Scotland but in Europe, have been astonishing – truly astonishing… It’s another brilliant result. English clubs will be looking at them thinking ‘I would rather avoid them right now’. I’d love to see Rangers up against a Premier League side. I’d love to see them knock them out.”

Rangers are in the driving seat in their tie after securing four away goals. They are now favourites to make it through to the last 16 of the competition.

In terms of potential future English opponents, Arsenal drew 1-1 at Benfica in their first leg so that tie is still in the balance. Manchester United have all but secured their passage to the next round after a 4-0 win against Real Sociedad.

It’s a similar story for Spurs who won 4-1 versus Austrian outfit Wolfsberger. Leicester, meanwhile, drew 0-0 in their first game against Slavia Prague so there is all to play for in the second leg.
