“Could Be Ideal..” Laudrup Claims Rangers Have A Secret Weapon Who May Be Able To Expose Celtic This Weekend

Rangers legend Brian Laudrup says his former club must use Nicolas Raskin’s passing range to their advantage in the League Cup final against Celtic this weekend.

The Old Firm rival’s use of inverted fullbacks mean they can be exposed on counterattacks, with quick switch of plays to the wings, and Laudrup believes Raskin has the skills to create openings:

“If you look at Celtic, they are inspired by the same kind of thoughts we see at Manchester City and Arsenal in England. The full-backs invert to become midfielders at times when they’re on the ball. It’s been one of Postecoglou’s trademarks.”

“It’s a modern, attractive way to play but these movements will, eventually, also leave some space to exploit on the wings if you can force quick transitions and counter-attacks. To make the most of it, you need players who can pick the right pass under pressure. That’s where Raskin could be ideal.”

It is an interesting point that Laudrup makes and manager Michael Beale has no doubt also identified the weaknesses in Celtic’s system.

They certainly had some joy against the Hoops at Ibrox in the 2-2 draw back in January, and they were unlucky not to come away with the three points on that day.

The introduction of Raskin does offer the Gers an added dimension in the middle of the pitch but it remains to be seen whether the Belgian Under 21 international’s presence will be the difference maker at Hampden Park on Sunday.
