Celtic have been awarded the Scottish Premiership title after a board meeting at the SPFL this morning. The vote was inevitable after Rangers had their calls for an internal investigation into the governing body’s handling of a season-ending resolution rejected by member clubs.
Fans on Twitter have been critical of their Old Firm rivals for celebrating a title win which was not earned on the pitch:
Awarded, not won.

Rangers, don’t release anything. Take the L. We were well beat and the only way to respond is by winning the next title whenever that may be possible.

Every Rangers title has been won on the pitch – that is the mark of true, deserved champions.

Given the title is not winning the title everyone knows that and I’ll be honest if it was Rangers in Celtics position I’d feel the same

Although the thirteen point gap was a sizeable one, the Light Blues did have a game in hand, as well as two matches against Celtic in their final ten matches.
The SPFL’s decision is highly controversial, not only due to Celtic, but because it also condemned Hearts to relegation based on a table calculated by points per game.
The Edinburgh club could now resort to legal action, and it will be interesting to see whether the decision holds up in court if a lawsuit is brought forward.
