Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has praised the work that Steven Gerrard has done as Rangers manager over the last few years.

The BBC pundit says the progress that the Gers have made under Gerrard has been impressive, while he believes his former England teammate is loving life in Glasgow.

“After what he had to do when he first went in, to where they are now, in terms of winning the league last season and then getting bigger and bigger, he looks as if he’s really enjoying it.”

Gerrard has been linked with Shearer’s former club Newcastle in recent weeks, with the manager’s job now available after the sacking of Steve Bruce.

However, fans will be glad to hear that the Light Blues boss is now quite a way down the pecking order in terms of the frontrunners at the bookmakers.

Belgian head coach Roberto Martinez is now favourite, along with ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre and former Arsenal boss Unai Emery.

Gerrard has also spoken out about the possibility of leaving Ibrox in recent days, emphatically stating that he is very happy to stay at the Scottish champions.
