Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos looked more like his old self after bagging a vital brace in the 2-0 win over Sparta Prague last night.

The Colombian may have helped new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst get off to a great start, with the Gers progressing to the knockout stages of Europa League, but Charlie Adam feels the forward’s value has depreciated severely due to his overall poor form.

Both Porto and Lille have been linked over the past two summers, in addition to Premier League teams such as West Ham and Newcastle. Reports claimed that Rangers were demanding as much as €20m (£17m) for Morelos, but Adam believes the 25-year-old is now worth significantly less:

“I think he is miles away from it. Maybe the hunger is gone. He has to find that burning desire in his belly again, because he is the focal point when he is up there scoring the goals. When he is playing well, throwing people around and bullying them, playing off the shoulder, he is a hand full. Rangers will be hoping he can get back to that sooner rather than later, and a new manager coming in might just have to tell him a few harsh words and ignite something… Because he is a goalscorer I think he will get interest. You’re talking £6million, £8million maybe.”

Adam was speaking before yesterday’s match against Prague so he may have a slightly different view now, but even so, Morelos has to show greater consistency.

The Colombian international has managed only nine goals in 22 appearances so far this season and van Bronckhorst will be very keen to get even more out of him.
