5 Goalscorers From 5 Different European Leagues Rangers Could Sign If Morelos Leaves

The Ibrox Stadium.

With reports in recent days suggesting that Alfredo Morelos’s agent Michael Gorman is in Portugal ahead of a potential bid from Porto, we thought it would be a good idea to look at who Rangers could sign if they do sell the 25-year-old this summer.

Director of Football Ross Wilson has previously said that they will allow Morelos to leave if a club matches their valuation of the player, and it appears Porto are the likeliest team to meet their demands currently.

With the Gers’ expecting to fetch £20m from the sale of the Colombian, we decided to look at players that could be signed for an affordable fee, who have scored regularly in different countries across Europe.

Press the next page as we look at five possible replacements for Morelos.

Arthur Cabral – FC Basel – 20 Goals

The Brazilian reportedly has a €12m (£10.3m) asking price; a fee which Rangers could match if they do offload Morelos this summer.

Cabral is said to be a transfer target for Ligue One side Nice, who have reportedly made a €9m (£7.7m) offer for the 23-year-old, so the Gers would probably need to move fast if they wanted to secure his signature.

Georgios Giakoumakis – VVV Venlo – 29 goals

The Greek international was in red-hot form playing in the Eredivise last season, and his figures were all the more impressive considering he was playing in a team that were relegated.

Giakoumakis will almost certainly be on the move this summer and he is unlikely to cost a great deal either. However, with English clubs such as Southampton and Brighton said to be interested, the Light Blues may face a battle to snap him up.

Ramon Mierez – NK Osijek – 23 goals

Rangers have a history of signing players from the Croatian outfit, having snapped up Borna Barisic a few years ago, and the Argentinian forward could well be a good option to consider.

Mierez is only on loan from Alaves currently but he will move to Osijek on a permanent basis next month, and his club may consider selling him on for a quick profit.

Aaron Boupendza – Hatayspor – 22 goals

The Gabonese international has been linked with both Rangers and Celtic in recent months, and it is not surprising considering his goal record in Turkey.

Hatayspor are reportedly demanding €8m (£6.85m) for the wide man, and while he wouldn’t be a direct replacement for Morelos, he would help replace the Colombian’s goals.

Dawid Kurminowski – MSK Zilina – 26 goals

The Polish Under 21 international was in impressive form in the Slovakian league last season. After helping Zilina win promotion the previous campaign, he scored a ton of goals on the club’s return to the top flight.

During the playoff stages from March to May, Kurminowski scored 10 goals in 10 matches, including four on the final day of the season against Zlate Moravce.
