Rangers’ Director of Football Ross Wilson has come under closer scrutiny after Wednesday’s 3-0 home defeat to Napoli in the Champions League.
Five summer signings were left on the bench by manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, while only 2 players who had been signed during Wilson’s reign were included in the starting eleven.
With the Gers struggling for form both in Europe and the league, a lot of the blame is being directed towards Wilson, with many fans on Twitter claiming that his transfer record has been very poor:
100% he needs to go.
That starting line up last night was the final nail in the coffin for RW.— robcrerar (@RobCharbour55) September 15, 2022
I think there may be a rift brewing between Gio, Wilson & the board with regards recruitment? I thought Gio had lost his players confidence but last night proved that’s not the case! Time will tell 🤔🤔

Success rate is appalling. If he has a shred of professional integrity he should resign.

So much quality gone out the door, and the replacements are not even near the same level!

10 million paid for 2 players who are not good enough for the starting 11 says it all. He’s an abject failure and must be shown the door.

His recruitment has been really really poor. We've regressed since he arrived. Hardly a decent signing from the lot. Bang average every single one of them.

He needs binned, it’s abundantly clear Gio and his team have no input in the signings. Compare that to Celtic, where their manager brought in guys he knows and they go straight in and improve their team.

You do feel that one of Wilson or van Bronckhorst won’t be still at the club by the end of the season. Going by his selection choices so far this campaign, it’s clear that the manager doesn’t fully trust the signings that have been brought in.
In that situation, you either find a coach who can get the best out of the new recruits or you sack the person responsible for buying them.
